Create CA Leadership Council welcomes new Chair and Chair-Elect

Create CA leadership Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Spencer as Chair and Jeannine Flores as Chair-Elect each for a two-year term.

Mr. Spencer currently is Project Director for Green Light, Go, an outdoor education program that coordinates arts instruction as a critical part of the curriculum. Previously, Jason was the Principal Advisor to State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson and served as the CDE representative to Create CA. He holds a Master’s of Public Administration from USC and Bachelor Degrees in Sociology and Political Science from Sonoma State University.  Jason started his career in the Legislature as part of the Senate Fellows program in 2006. In addition to serving on then-Senator Torlakson’s legislative team, Jason was Senior Policy Advisor to the Superintendent during his first term as State Superintendent. Jason has also served as Executive Director of the 501c3 Vasconcellos Legacy Project and has worked for a private firm lobbying for informal science education institutions and other education sector non-profits. “I have a personal passion for the Arts and am a longtime advocate for more Arts education in California schools. It’s an honor to chair the Create CA Leadership Council, especially during such a dynamic time,” said Jason.  “I believe that every student must have access to the arts and I look forward to bringing my creativity and innovative thought to the coalition.”

Jason succeeds outgoing chair Jesús Holguin who will remain on the Leadership Council as a member of both the Equity and Leadership Development Committees. “I want to personally thank Jesús for his strategic leadership during the last two years and being such a collaborative colleague who has made a significant contribution to the work”, Jason stated.

Ms. Jeannine Flores is the newly elected Chair-elect and is the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) Arts & STEAM Coordinator in the Center for Distance and Online Learning, a division of Curriculum & Instructional Services. She has been in education for 23 years, is an alum of California State University, Long Beach and Concordia University, Irvine. Prior to her position at LACOE, Ms. Flores was the VAPA Coordinator for the Santa Clara County Office of Education where she oversaw Artspiration. Currently, she serves as Regional Arts Lead for California State Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) Arts Initiative for Region 11.  Jeannine brings a wealth of knowledge around discrete arts and arts integration curriculum, professional development, standards-based instruction, community arts partnerships, and arts advocacy leadership. Her background as a music educator in Orange County established strong roots and connections to all disciplines. Ms. Flores was named Teacher of the Year in 2005 and was awarded the ACSA Region 7 Doris Prince Scholarship in 2019.
